This was such an inspiring event to attend!! The designs you see here are the work of Kevin Ylvisaker, AIFD. Kevin was so fun to watch, incredibly talented, informative, and whitty! I wish he had his own TV show!! There was so much information to take in, however I will highlight some of the most important trends discussed.
First of all the color of the year for 2010 is TURQUOISE, with purple being a close second. This came as no surprise. Metal elements are very hot right now, especially silver. And monochromatic displays are still favored over unusual color pallets.
One revolutionary trend we are seeing is the use of moss to fill in arrangements, instead of greenery! This trend was not well received by all of the florists. We are still seeing the use of greenery but less of it, and greenery is being looked at more like another flower, rather than a background design element. Which is making tropical and unusual leaves increasingly popular.
Another trend is toward horizontal and vertical designs. Predictions were made that the once popular pyramid designs (think one sided alter arrangements, and funeral baskets) are quickly going to become a thing of the past. I for one, was overjoyed to hear this news!
The other thing that made me want to jump up out of my seat and cheer was the announcement that Gladiolas are BACK! Did you hear that people? Yes, the flowers that so many of you tell me are for funerals are very popular right now. I absolutely love working with these beauties and am so glad that they are making such a huge comeback.
What a wonderful show this was! It was so great seeing old friends and meeting new ones!! I can’t wait to attend the next one!!
This was my favorite arrangement of the night! I have a lot more pictures of this one, but with lots of other people in the shots.
Monochromatic example, filler flower is used here but in bunches, not all over the arrangement.
Tada! Turquoise!
Monochromatic, with sculptural elements.
The Blue Vanda Orchids were my favorite flower of the night! I thought I was going to have to be dragged away from them! But look everyone, they are paired with Carnations, and they still look gorgeous!!
Pomanders are still very popular.
Beautiful garden style vase, which has the modern twist of the tropical leaf. I was so distracted by the Orchids that I forgot what other elements were discussed with this one.
Designing for Generation Y. Notice these arrangements have been greened in with moss! What I really liked was the addition of apple green wire wrapping the Gerber Daisy stems.
This style is now being suggested instead of the traditional pyramid shaped arrangements for Wedding Ceremony Arrangements
Party design incorporating Generation Y colors, lights, and wire elements.
This linear style arrangement may be just the thing for those of you struggling with what to do about the long tables at your receptions.
A new take on garden style.
A new twist on bulb plants and plant displays. This is a great idea for budget brides!!
One of the rooms where I do a lot of my shopping.
Got twigs?
Spring selections: Anemones, Ranuculas, Hyacinths, ahhhhh!
I am never disappointed by the beautiful displays at this wholesaler! This beauty was the creation of Designer Debra Perry-Scott. Her work is just amazing!
