A Night in Bloom Events Floristry

Prom Season Has Arrived!

I realize Prom is one of those areas that often gets overlooked when there are so many other milestone events in our students’ lives. However, Prom is a big deal to students; this is the first really exciting formal event in many teens’ lives, and they should have floral designs that fit the occasion!

When I was a young designer working in flower shops, my employers would tell me to get every customer in and out as quickly as possible if they were ordering prom flowers. I was always told that teenagers don’t have any money to spend on flowers, and they take too long deciding what to buy.

But that wasn’t my experience at all!

Prom-going teenagers and their families were great! During my very first week selling prom flowers, I designed a stunning, bejeweled Stephanotis corsage and boutonniere for a teenager who happily paid over $100 with her babysitting money. She knew exactly what she wanted, and she valued it.

While working in these flower shops, I would hear from excited parents telling me about the multiple alterations they had for their daughter’s dresses, or how the tailor had to extend their son’s pant legs because they had an unexpected growth spurt. I would meet with groups of giggly best friends who would proudly show me their dresses with all of their sparkly, hand-beaded details. I would hear about the devastating last-minute breakups and stand-ups, the wallflower who had a glow-up, and the couples who would come into the shop and announce that they were just going as FRIENDS. All of these moments deserve flowers, ribbons, and keepsakes! Prom is a small tradition, but it’s also a meaningful ritual. And for many parents, it’s one of the last little errands we get to be part of before our children step fully into adulthood.

Whether you’re a student or a parent reading this, I would be honored to create something truly special for you. A one-of-a-kind corsage or boutonniere designed just for your look and your moment.

And if traditional pieces aren’t your style, we can think beyond them. Bouquets, hair flowers, floral rings, ankle accents, or something completely unique, something that feels like you.

Wearing flowers for milestone events goes back hundreds of years. They’ve been worn for protection, for beauty, for status, for fragrance, and for confidence. No matter how trends evolve, flowers always find their way into life’s most meaningful moments.

This year feels especially personal for me.

If you are a parent reading this, I’m in your shoes this year. My Matt will be attending his senior prom, and I want to commemorate every single second and final milestone before he goes off to college. My favorite way to do this is by photographing the little things. If you take a look at some of my photos from his junior prom, I created little montages with momentos to mark the occasion.

If that’s something you’d love to do too, I’d be happy to help.

This year, I’ll be hosting a “Moms & Mimosas” brunch on the morning of prom. You can pick up your flowers, take a breath, and photograph all of the beautiful details before the day begins. We’ll also have order forms ready for graduation flowers, bouquets, boutonnieres, and pieces for caps and gowns.

There will be champagne. There will be tissues. Because it’s both “YAY!” and “HOW did it go by so fast?” all at once.

If this season feels a little bittersweet for you, too, you’re not alone.
I would truly love to be a small part of it, helping you create something meaningful, beautiful, and entirely your own.

Flowers may seem like a small detail, but they have a way of holding onto a moment just a little bit longer.
And sometimes, that’s everything.

It Has Been a Minute!

With so much going on in the world and here in Flowerland, I’ve decided to get back into blogging because one or two sentences on Instagram is not going to cut it these days, folks.
I have so many bases to cover as we continue our journey into 2025, but I’ll try to keep this as short and sweet as I can, at least for this first post.

First and Foremost: Gratitude

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Your support means the world to me and my team, and I couldn’t do what I love without the kindness and support you all continue to gift me with. Whether you’ve just recently discovered us or have been with us since the beginning, your belief in our work keeps me inspired every single day.

Goals and New Offerings for 2025

Goal #1: Giving Back

In 2025, I want to revisit the spirit of giving back that fueled my early days in business. Each month, we will be donating a portion from every retainer payment to a worthy cause. Our first focus this year was aiding victims of the California wildfires. As the year progresses, I hope to expand these efforts by organizing additional fundraising opportunities to the victims of Hurricane Helene, and other causes that align with our core values.

Goal #2: Prioritizing Sustainability

This year, I’m doubling down on creating beautiful and unique weddings while incorporating sustainable practices. From the beginning, we have always done our part to leave as small a footprint as possible. This year, we are relying heavily on our large collection of rental items, and will continue to recommend incorporating fruits and veggies wherever possible in wedding designs, which can later be donated to those in need.

Goal #3: Online Classes

I’m thrilled to announce that my online class offerings are officially up and running! These affordable courses are designed to help fellow florists, wedding planners, and flower enthusiasts master the art of floral design from anywhere in the world.

Goal #4: In-Studio Classes

After the incredible response to last fall’s in-studio classes, I’m excited to host more hands-on workshops this year. Stay tuned for dates and themes – I can’t wait to welcome you back into the studio.

Goal #5: Pop-Up Flower Cart

Last year’s Pop-Up Flower Cart was such a hit that we’re bringing it back for the 2025 growing season! Featuring locally-grown blooms, this cart is a celebration of community and sustainability. We can’t wait to share these beautiful flowers with you again.

Goal #6: Social Media Presence

As always, I’ll strive to be more present online, with more of a focus on our blog and YouTube channel. From sharing tips and inspirations to connecting with all of you, I’m committed to bringing more flower-packed happiness to our online community.

Looking Ahead
As we continue our journey into this year, I hold hope for a year of peace and healing. In times of uncertainty, let us find happiness in the simple, enduring things—flowers, gardening, decorating, and most importantly, love. At A Night in Bloom, we are dedicated to honoring love in all its forms, especially when the world feels so fractured. Your support carries deep meaning in these times, and I am profoundly grateful to have you with me on this journey.

With heartfelt gratitude,
~Heather

That’s Fabulous Friday: The Power of Flowers

“The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.” – Coretta Scott King

A Night In Bloom considers supporting the community we work, live and raise our families in as one of our top priorities. To that end, we have committed to donating a portion of our retainer fees this spring to Miller Middle School. It is our hope that the wonderful couples we work with will appreciate knowing that by choosing to book with us, they are also helping to support a very deserving school and the beautiful children who attend there.

Its not uncommon for staff and students alike to feel the pressures of the world around us. One only has to watch the nightly news to see that current events can cause feelings of anxiety, negativity and depression in people of all ages. However, studies have shown us that exposure to flowers can reduce these for men, women, the elderly, and children.

“Common sense tells us that flowers make us happy, … Now, science shows that not only do flowers make us happier than we know, they have strong positive effects on our emotional well-being.”
– Jeannette Haviland-Jones, Ph.D., Professor of Psychology at Rutgers and lead researcher of a study on the subject.
(for more information on this study please follow this link: https://www.britishfloristassociation.org/inspiration/flowers-are-good-for-you—and-we-now-have-the-scientific-proof.asp )

So in addition to our financial contribution, A Night In Bloom is working on ideas for other ways we can use the power of flowers to bring joy and happiness to the staff & students of Miller Middle School. We look forward to sharing more of this with you as we finalize the details! And if you have any ideas or suggestions please feel free to share them with us. Thank you for helping us help others!

So Much to Share!

Hello Flower Friends & Happy Valentine’s Day! It feels like forever since we’ve blogged here. We have been so busy with wonderful clients, dreamy weddings & exciting changes for our studio! Oh where to start?….

It seems only right to begin with gratitude and love for all of our fabulous couples we had the pleasure of working with in 2018. From industrial chic, to whimsical woodland, to rustic barn & farm style; all of our couples had beautiful visions that were a joy for us to develop and bring to life. Each and every event we worked on was truly unique! We will be blogging about these in more detail in the coming weeks and months, but here are a few teaser photos to get you excited!

Bouquet prep for Alison and Billy’s big day.
Heather’s talented husband, Bryan designing behind the scenes for Erin & JB’s wedding.
Emma’s bouquet- still swooning over this one!

We have also spent a lot of time and effort into updating changing the look of our website. You will notice we have updated our packages. We are happy to say this will make things so much easier for our clients and will make the initial stages of planning and proposal SO MUCH FASTER! If you haven’t yet, please stop by our new website and have a look around. While you are there make sure you subscribe to our mailing list as well!

Finally, and perhaps our most exciting and biggest project we’ve undertaken in the last few months: we are moving our studio! Heather and her family found and moved into their beautiful new home back in May. Right on their property is an adorable carriage house that has been undergoing thoughtful renovations to be the new, improved studio of A Night In Bloom. The process is still underway, but we look so forward to sharing photos once everything is in place and ready!

As you can see, 2018 was a beautiful whirlwind of events! We are so blessed and grateful for all the opportunities and new growth we’ve experienced in the past year. Thank you so much for being patient with our little blog here while we catch our breath and prepare for what is already shaping up to be an amazing 2019 Wedding Season.

Happy Spring! New Offerings!

Hey flower friends, it has been so long!!!  Our winter was a long, but productive one!  For most of this winter we have accepted only Full Service Events and used this quieter time to revamp our more budget friendly options.  Well, as most of you know, we are now ready to begin taking on DIY, Quasi-DIY, and Rental only orders once again!  We have used the past several months to really streamline these processes on our end, ensuring everything runs smoothly for our couples and for us!  Please be sure to check out all of our new offerings on our updated website here:

http://www.anightinbloom.com/

We have added some more Off the Rack Packages, DIY Packages, and Rental Packages; which seem to be really popular, so look forward to seeing more pop up!

Now that our website and office related tasks are in order, we are in the process of clearing out some of our rental items to make room for some new inventory!  So we will be having a long overdue “Purge Sale”!  We are thinking it is going to be easiest to do this a little bit at a time, rather than have just one huge sale day, especially since we are now in the early part of wedding season.  Please be on the lookout on our Facebook page and Twitter for more details.

One final note on our new offerings is that I am getting more and more requests from up and coming florists,  wedding planners, and even a few seasoned florists for consulting services.  I am trying my best to find some useful and affordable ways to help this new group out, but please understand this is a totally new area for me and I need a little time to think it through.  As a little test I have added a section to my website with E-books.  The first one I have is geared to newer Wedding Planners and Stylists who are trying to figure out how to work with Baby’s Breath.  It may seem like a simple enough flower, but I field questions almost weekly during wedding season about how to work with it.  Many of you need to know how much is in a bunch, how many can I fit in a galvanized pail, how many go in a Mason Jar? etc.  For $5 I can help you out! Please check it out here:

https://anightinbloom.com/Ebook/Baby’s%20Breath%20Guide

Our final order of business is updating our mailing lists, since so many of you have subscribed to our list over the past year! Thank you all so much!!!  I am really hoping to send out more mail to those of you who have subscribed with details about upcoming events and discounts.

I think that is more than enough news for one day!  I will try to make the next post have much more flower eye candy ;-)I hope you all have a wonderful spring season, please stay tuned for more!

Warm wishes,

Heather

Lydia and Chad’s Whimsical, Flower Filled Big Day- Full Moon Resort

Lydia and Chad were a complete delight!  They planned a beautiful day at the picturesque Full Moon Resort in Big Indian, NY.  This delightful couple wanted to really focus on the beauty of their surroundings at Full Moon and the romantic Barn where the reception was to take place.  They felt that our Quasi-DIY options were a prefect fit for their needs.  My team and I handled all of the bouquets, corsages and boutonnieres and assisted Lydia and Chad with floral selections and accessories so they could DIY their own centerpieces!  The end result was a super romantic combination of the “ruffeliest” (is that a word?  I don’t care, that’s what they were!)  Roses, wildflowers, and fragrant blooms around!

We LOVE when our couples infuse personal details into their big day, dinosaur cake toppers, anyone?  It was very important for Lydia to have a piece of her Mother’s wedding dress attached to the handle of her bouquet, and I did my very best to attach it just right for her a couple of hours before she walked down the aisle.  Here are a few images that I snapped:

Here are a few of the beautiful wrap itself, what a thoughtful, heirloom quality gift! Both mother and daughter’s names and wedding dates are written on the fabric!

Here are a few more of the bouquets taken at the studio, really, really, really late the night before Lydia and Chad’s wedding day!

To see even more beautiful details of their wedding please check it out on Red Oak Weddings!!!  Especially the darling photos of the doggies!  There is nothing better than delivering wedding flowers and being greeted by wagging tails!  http://redoakweddings.com/blog/romantic-catskills-ny-wedding-at-full-moon-resort-love-me-do-photography.

Congratulations Lydia and Chad, we wish you all the best in your future together!!!  If it is as fun as your wedding looked, we know you will be off to a great start!  Cheers!

~Heather
