Happy Holidays!

white amaryllis

We are about to lock up our doors for 2013, here at the studio and my heart is so full of gratitude to all of you who have shared this past year with me and my wonderful staff!  What a lot of long hours, drama, and beauty we have had this year!  We had to overcome some serious non-floral issues in the early part of 2013.  E-mail issues, blog meltdowns, and some less than perfect days were continuously thrown at us.  However, once we were back into the swing of wedding season, things really improved.  The weather cooperated, the Coral Charm Peonies were too pretty to even look at, the Dahlias were just the right shade of purple, and our rentals certainly got a work out!

We were able to finish 2013 on a very high note, making the big decision to open to the public a few days a week, and amp up our class offerings.  Since then we have sold out of nearly ALL of our holiday offerings, made unbelievable friends, and have been able to connect on a daily basis with those who love flowers as much as we do!  We look forward to offering you more and more ways to make  flowers a part of your daily life in 2014!

Thank you so much to my family, friends, staff, and fellow wedding vendors, for your unending support!  To all of our 2013 couples, please stay tuned as your blogs will be coming and so will the Bloomie Awards!  To all of our future couples: we cannot wait to get started on your weddings!!!!

And to all of our past couples, the ones who still send me cute pictures of your pets dressed up in crazy outfits, your e-mails of, “we’re expecting!,” your picture messages of “we have traveled to yet another fabulous location,” and those of you who will still send me post cards of beautiful gardens when you come across them:  THANK YOU.  You are the ones that keep me going down this flower filled path in life, and I am blessed to call you all friends!

Happy holidays to all, and very best wishes for a beautiful 2014!

Cheers!

A Private Estate Wedding

Sometimes we have clients who would like to remain private when it comes to their wedding day.  This was just such a couple.  They were wed at A Private Estate in Germantown, NY on a beautiful September day.  All planning was handled by the amazing Jeanne Stark, and her team at Hudson Valley Ceremonies. http://www.hudsonvalleyceremonies.com  The gorgeous fabric draping was created by Larry Lustburg at Stortz Lighting www.stortzlighting.com

All florals were a little on the modern side and consisted primarily of crisp and clean looking Lilies, Orchids, Calla Lilies, and Hydrangea.  Tiny hints of rusticity were added with the raw muslin ribbon and locally grown Gomphrena flowers.  We wish we could show you more because it really was an absolutely beautiful day!  Best wishes to the happy couple!

That’s Fabulous Friday- Angels Among Us, and Tons of Opportunities to Shop Locally!

I know many of you are probably very grumpy with me that I have been slacking on blogging all of our 2013 events and for that I am truly sorry.  However I am only one person, and this is an exceptionally busy time of year for us as we are booking new 2014 weddings and in the midst of our first ever holiday season.

Even though I am so busy I still feel that it is very important for me to post this blog today.  This is a time of year for us all to reflect on the past year and celebrate the season of being thankful and giving back.

With that being said, I am completely blown away by the efforts of Kristen Hergenhan and her organization, Hudson Valley Kids this season.

https://www.facebook.com/HudsonValleyKids

Kristen posted an announcement a few weeks ago offering to help out families who would not be able to give their children a Christmas.  Each day she posts more and more stories of families in need, and each day more and more people and businesses offer to help!  These families aren’t asking for much either, some just want a new pair of gloves or work boots.  As a parent myself, I cannot even imagine how difficult this time of year must be for these families.  This is the greatest act of kindness I have seen all year, and I truly applaud Kristen and her efforts!!!!  We are doing what little part we can to help them out and encourage you all to help if you can, even if just by reposting on your social media outlets!

Our second announcement is about all of the local shopping opportunities we have this weekend!!!  As we all know Sinterklaas is happening in Rhinebeck on Saturday.  We have had a great time hosting one of the Crowns and Branches Workshops a few weeks ago at our studio, and loved seeing the little ones all decked out!  The celebration and parade here in Kingston took place on Small Business Saturday, so everyone had a chance to support our local shops here.  Now, this upcoming Saturday, there will be tons of opportunities to support local businesses in Rhinebeck, but just a short drive right over the bridge via Route 209 will land you right in Kingston, where two craft fairs are taking place!

The Hudson Valley Hullabaloo is happening right in uptown, at 323 Wall Street : http://hvhullabaloo.com/.  Here you will find plenty of amazingly talented craft vendors, food trucks, DJ, kids crafts, photobooth and more!

And right in midtown, our neighbors down the street, at Cornell Street Studios, will be hosting their annual Craft Fair, which always seems to have a great turn out!  Here you will find more talented crafters, live music and models featuring vintage couture!  http://www.cornellstreetstudios.com/Cornell_Street_Studios/Upcoming_Events.html

We may even decide to open our doors as well.  Stay tuned, we will post to our Facebook page in the morning if we do!  No matter where you shop this holiday season, please consider supporting small businesses!

Have a wonderful weekend folks and enjoy this beautiful  season of giving!

Martha And Earnest’s Elegant Fall Wedding- Skytop Kingston, NY

Martha and Earnest hired me nearly two years before their big day!  Despite the early planning, Martha knew exactly what she wanted for her florals.  All autumnal colored Roses, and lots of textural berries.  She supplied all of the beautiful runners, table numbers and candles herself.

Despite living and working in Kingston for many years, I had never done a wedding at Skytop before, and all I can say is WOW!  This is such a great venue for weddings!  Why are more couples not getting married here!?  They have a million dollar view, pretty reception room and the food smelled delicious!

All of Martha’s planning really paid off, she created the most beautiful fall wedding, filled with thoughtful details.  The weather cooperated perfectly and I couldn’t have been happier for this wonderful couple!  We wish you all the very best Martha and Earnest!  Best wishes!!!

That’s Fabulous Friday- The Lonely Bouquet Makes an Appearance on the Walkway Over the Hudson!

For quite some time now I have wanted to participate in the “Lonely Bouquet Project”. http://www.thelonelybouquet.com/ Well, just this past week, we paired up with Melissa Surprise to do our first drop (Violet, my three year old, came along for the excitement too!).  It was one of the COLDEST and windiest days yet, as you can see from the photos, and the cellophane wrapped bouquet.  But it was well worth it to be able to finally do this!

This was such a positive experience, I have decided that I am going to continue this habit, but in order to do so, some type of positive thing has to happen for a Lonely Bouquet to show up.  Today was a pretty good day for our Flower Market sales, but what really made my day was receiving a phone call from one of last week’s customers, still raving about how blown away she was by our Garden Roses and one of our “Mini” arrangements.  This is a phone call I wish on all new businesses!  Even though A Night in Bloom has been around for some time now, this Flower Market venture is still a scary one, so hearing such positive feedback really helps to remind me that I am headed in the right direction.

So to put out more positive vibes into the world today, I had Bryan and the kiddos place another Lonely Bouquet across the street at the Post Office, while they hid out and watched!  Violet was delighted and Matthew was sad to see it go, but in the end another “mystery adopter” walked away with something to brighten up her day.

We have still yet to hear who the lucky “adopters” were in either event, but we will keep you posted if we do!

HUGE thank you to Melissa for coming along on this adventure with us, for suggesting such a great location, and for lending us her unstoppable, artistic eye!  Be sure to check her out at: http://www.surprisephotography.com

There will be plenty more That’s Fabulous Friday’s ahead of us, as wedding season comes to a close.  Stay tuned, you don’t want to miss a minute of any of it!!!

Have a great weekend all!

At Long Last, A Place to Shop For Your Flowers, After the Wedding

open signFinally!!!  As some of you know, this project has been a very long time coming!  Well, after a season of nonstop phone calls about flowers for occasions other than weddings, this is the year I am finally giving in and carefully dipping my toes into the retail area.  Now, don’t panic, we are not going to be a wire service type of shop with balloons and stuffed animals.  What we will offer is as many locally grown/ grown in the USA products as possible, paired with our eclectic, recycled, vintage, and uncommon glassware.

What I keep hearing time and time again is that you all want something simple.  So I have attempted to simplify our  offerings by always offering standard items each week: a “by the bunch flower” (usually priced by the stem or bunch); a “Sampler,” which will have an assortment of the weekly special flowers, paired with unique seasonal greenery, arranged in a Mason Jar with a chalk board tag, priced at $20; and our “Minis,” which will be an assortment of whatever we have popping up in our gardens, got an amazing deal on, or those blooms that didn’t quite make the cut for a custom design, priced at the rock bottom price of $5!  Please note: all of these weekly by the bunch, Samplers and Minis are cash and carry only.

We will cater to holidays, custom work and sympathy.  Each of these categories will be simplified as well.  Holiday designs will be offered in several styles, at several price points, and must all be pre-ordered.  (We will have a few sale day events coming up this holiday season, so stay tuned).  Custom work will feature all of the “good stuff,” but pricing really must begin at $125 and up for these designs.  There really is very little difference between a $50 arrangement and one priced at $65.  I want to be able to make you all something unforgettably amazing, and to do that, you have to give me some type of budget to work with.  I often receive phone calls from customers asking if I can create a vase arrangement with the same florals I have used for a bridal bouquet, but for a budget of $75 and I simply cannot do that type of thing and still remain in business!

Since event work is still at the core of our business, I still have to devote a lot of time to this area.  Therefore our flower market hours will be a little shorter, and will be from Wednesday-Friday between the hours of 10:00 and 5:00 p.m.  On Fridays, we will be open until 6 p.m.  Weekends will still be reserved for our events and wedding appointments.

Here is a link to our brand new Website:  http://www.hudsonvalleyflowermarket.com/

Please keep in mind this site is still very much under construction.  If you have any questions about placing an order, please give us a ring at the studio: 845.802.0750, or e-mail: anightinbloom@gmail.com

So welcome to the next chapter!  And to all of our past couples, thank you so much for your encouragement and pushing me in this direction!
