At Long Last, A Place to Shop For Your Flowers, After the Wedding

open signFinally!!!  As some of you know, this project has been a very long time coming!  Well, after a season of nonstop phone calls about flowers for occasions other than weddings, this is the year I am finally giving in and carefully dipping my toes into the retail area.  Now, don’t panic, we are not going to be a wire service type of shop with balloons and stuffed animals.  What we will offer is as many locally grown/ grown in the USA products as possible, paired with our eclectic, recycled, vintage, and uncommon glassware.

What I keep hearing time and time again is that you all want something simple.  So I have attempted to simplify our  offerings by always offering standard items each week: a “by the bunch flower” (usually priced by the stem or bunch); a “Sampler,” which will have an assortment of the weekly special flowers, paired with unique seasonal greenery, arranged in a Mason Jar with a chalk board tag, priced at $20; and our “Minis,” which will be an assortment of whatever we have popping up in our gardens, got an amazing deal on, or those blooms that didn’t quite make the cut for a custom design, priced at the rock bottom price of $5!  Please note: all of these weekly by the bunch, Samplers and Minis are cash and carry only.

We will cater to holidays, custom work and sympathy.  Each of these categories will be simplified as well.  Holiday designs will be offered in several styles, at several price points, and must all be pre-ordered.  (We will have a few sale day events coming up this holiday season, so stay tuned).  Custom work will feature all of the “good stuff,” but pricing really must begin at $125 and up for these designs.  There really is very little difference between a $50 arrangement and one priced at $65.  I want to be able to make you all something unforgettably amazing, and to do that, you have to give me some type of budget to work with.  I often receive phone calls from customers asking if I can create a vase arrangement with the same florals I have used for a bridal bouquet, but for a budget of $75 and I simply cannot do that type of thing and still remain in business!

Since event work is still at the core of our business, I still have to devote a lot of time to this area.  Therefore our flower market hours will be a little shorter, and will be from Wednesday-Friday between the hours of 10:00 and 5:00 p.m.  On Fridays, we will be open until 6 p.m.  Weekends will still be reserved for our events and wedding appointments.

Here is a link to our brand new Website:  http://www.hudsonvalleyflowermarket.com/

Please keep in mind this site is still very much under construction.  If you have any questions about placing an order, please give us a ring at the studio: 845.802.0750, or e-mail: anightinbloom@gmail.com

So welcome to the next chapter!  And to all of our past couples, thank you so much for your encouragement and pushing me in this direction!

Jessica and Vince’s Waterfront Perfection at The Grandview

I first met with Jessica and her Mother months before Jessica and Vince’s big day at the venue with the million dollar view, the Grandview.  I just adore water views and weddings that take place on the water are just such a treat for me to work on.

Jessica wasn’t super attached to any one type of flower or floral design, but instead she was more concerned with the overall look and feel of a perfect candlelit autumn wedding.  Jessica already had lanterns that she hoped to use for her ceremony decor, and her sweet Dad made the stands for them.  To further enhance the lanterns we added fresh floral arrangements containing the prettiest fall blooms and hanging Amaranthus.  The aisle was adorned with fresh Rose petals in all fall tones.  Centerpieces consisted of a beautiful seasonal assortment of fall toned Roses, Hypericum Berries and Seeded Eucalyptus.  It was a picture perfect day!  Congratulations Jessica and Vince, we wish you all the very best in your new life together!!!  Cheers!

Beautiful DIY April Wedding- Full Moon Resort, Big Indian, NY

I was so delighted when I saw that this wedding was published on Mountain Side Bride!  http://mountainsidebride.com/2013/08/handmade-and-vintage-inspired-outdoor-hudson-valley-wedding/Mary and I only had one or two conversations about her wedding florals, and her friends handled the rest!  This is becoming more common for me these days, especially with all of our DIY couples.  I never even got to see Mary until I saw these images, and wow, what a knock out!  This was an absolutely beautiful wedding, filled with plenty of detail! I absolutely love all of the contrast of the birch, moss and evergreens.  What a beautiful job photographer Jordan Quinn did here, I look forward to seeing more of his work!

Congratulations Mary and Michael!!!Herschkowitz_Farkas_JordanQuinnPhotography_IMG4806_0_low (2)

Classic and Elegant Wedding at the Highland’s Country Club- Garrison, NY

How do I describe Stacey?  Happy.  A nice as can be, genuinely happy bride.  I love working with couples like Stacey and Tom because they have such an appreciation for beautiful colors and flowers.  When it came time to add the petals to the base of their arch, Stacey just let us do our thing.  So instead of just using the tried and true Rose petals, we were able to shred up some fragrant purple Double Stock flower, and mixed these blossoms in with the ivory and yellow petals.  What a beautiful and fragrant effect!

Stacey asked me to make one of the more difficult bouquets we make here in flowerland, the hand-wired, Mini Calla Lily bouquet.  Yes, I know you can make these on forms too, but I am old school when it comes to these bouquets. It had been several years since I have made one of these beauties, but I was up for a change of pace from all of the Peony/ Dahlia styles we all love so much.  This ended up being one of my favorite bouquets of the season!  Congratulations Stacey and Tom, we wish you all the very best!!!

The pictures never do justice to these types of candle designs!  I really loved the Baby’s Breath Wreaths, the bases were edged with just a little moss which made them look so much more loved, than if they were left plain.  These large hurricanes were also from our rental collection.

Half of the tables had the wreaths and hurricanes, the other half of the tables were dressed with dreamy candlelight and Baby’s Breath accents.

The bridesmaids were dressed in navy; and carried bouquets of all purple Iris, Double Stock, Statice, Roses, and Craspedia.

We absolutely will never, ever tire of Craspedia boutonnieres here!!

The Classes are Coming, the Classes are Coming!!!

Birds _Finally_

Finally!  I have managed to finagle a few dates and times that I will be able to offer classes and workshops to our fans!

So many of you want a class where you can learn the basics of getting flowers to look good in a vase, so I am offering a wildflower vase class to help you all get started.  My dearest DIY girls are also begging me to get it together and add some classes for them too!  I’ve got you ladies.  Since I really can’t cram all the DIY designs and discussions into one class, I’m breaking it down into 3 separate offerings, one devoted to the basics, one devoted to all things rustic and vintage, and one devoted to designs incorporating candle designs and submersible flowers.  Hopefully you will be able to find the match for you and your own unique needs.

Please check out our website under the “Classes and Workshops” section for more information.  I really hope you will be able to join us!  To sign up, please give us a call at the studio 845.802.0750, or send us an e-mail at anightinbloominfo@gmail.com

Mompreneur Monday- Squeezing in Family Time Amid the Madness of Wedding Season!

Wedding season began a few weeks ago, here in flower land.  We were so fortunate to have our first wedding of the season take place at the Highland’s Country Club in Garrison, NY (yes, pictures will be coming!).  We had the pleasure of working with one of the most delightful couples, who happened to have very simple delivery requirements.  So when I realized I would have the majority of the day free, I opted to take the rest of the day and head over to Cold Spring and Bear Mountain with Bryan and the little ones!

This type of business can be brutal on my family and social life at times.  For me, what has worked best is finding little pockets of time, not stressing over the small things, and just making it work.  Case in point: the evening before and the morning of any wedding delivery day is very hurried and stressful, so we didn’t even think about lunch.  We opted to grab a pizza in Cold Spring, and ate it at the park; out of the box on paper plates.  The kids loved their “pizza picnic,” and we were the envy of all the other little ones there.  I’m sure other types of parents would have packed a perfect picnic lunch, complete with all of the toddler utensils and whatnot.  Not a flower mommy, I don’t always have that luxury; although I did pack drinks and snacks 😉

What a GREAT start to 2013!  Cheers Mompreneurs!
