Lindsey & Mikael’s Not-So-Garden-Variety Wedding- Boscobel and The Garrison

Here is a look at a really FUN wedding we had the chance to design this past summer at The Garrison.  Lindsey and Mikael wed at Boscobel, and later had their reception at The Garrison.  Unfortunately this was a couple who we didn’t really get too much of a chance to get to know; they had a lot to tend to, as half of the wedding guests were traveling all the way from France (where Mikael is from).

Lindsey had a lot of different ideas, and very specific taste; from her color scheme which was cerulean, poppy, peach, lavender, mustard, and green; to her  ideas of  incorporating Heirloom Tomatoes into her centerpieces!  These little beauties looked as good as they tasted!  Thanks to our friends at the Apple Bin in Port Ewen http://theapplebinfarmmarket.com/and Glasco Farms!

Lindsey also asked us to source and reuse empty Saratoga Water Bottles, to infuse the deep blue into her day.  Half of the tables were topped with the Heirloom Tomato centerpieces; and the other tables contained the recycled cobalt blue bud vases, filled with local wildflowers, Roses, Ranuculas and all kinds of greenery.  Lindsay designed her own lace wrapped votives, which you can see in our last photo.  These votives were so pretty, she did a great job creating them and the rest of her and Mikael’s beautiful day!

Congratulations Lindsey and Mikael, we wish you all the very best!!!

We only wish we had a chance to snap more of these photos, but once again we were dealing with a very unpredictable weather pattern.  It was quite the summer for exciting weather!

Mompreneur Mondays- Someone Needs to Have Your Back!

I never realized how much I loved my blog until it was gone.  Literally gone!  The dreaded, FATAL ERROR!  Long story VERY short, it is now back and running. But only thanks to my amazing back up support team!!!

DSCF5530

As we all know, I am a floral designer, I am not an IT person.  When I first began A Night in Bloom, I had no idea what HTML even was!  Web design terrified me.  Finding a web designer terrified me.  I still can’t remember how I found Shoppe Pro, but somehow I managed to.

Shoppe Pro is a web hosting company for small businesses.  https://www.shoppepro.com/ .  Not only do they offer exceptional tech support for even the most clueless computer people (me!), but they support a number of other small business website designers.  Even more remarkable is that the majority of them are WAHM (work at home mother) run businesses.

I needed a lot of help when I first started working on my website and The Shoppe Pro team has been there for me 110%.  When I first set up my website (5 years ago!!!) I must have submitted a support ticket every day.  Each and every time, (even at 11:30 at night!) I would get a response either from Karina or her team within minutes!  They are an unbelievable group of women!  I feel like they are my virtual family.  Even with my latest serious blog fiasco, the entire thing was resolved by the end of the day!!

I cannot recommend them enough.  If you are looking for the ultimate group of IT people to have your back, look no further than this American based, work at home mother run company!

Kristina and Dennis’ Full of Details Full Moon Resort Wedding

I think Kristina contacted me about a month before her wedding.  When we first spoke she asked if she could drop by the studio to discuss picking up a few by the bunch flowers from us.  No problem I told her.  Well, I had no idea that she and Dennis had been crafting and creating for what must have been well over a year leading up to their August nuptials.  They planned to wed at Full Moon Resort, which is a spectacular canvas for all creative couples!  Everywhere you look, you are surrounded by rustic natural beauty.

So after brainstorming a little with wood tree rings, lace, candles, reclaimed bottles, and hand painted mason jars; Kristina decided she would supply all her own accessories, and contracted us to create her centerpieces and personal flowers.  We are used to working on events where couples supply some of their own accessories and photos, but we were completely blown away by the work and effort this group put forth to create this special occasion.  You can see some of the behind the scenes prep on their video, created by Tree of Life Films.  http://vimeo.com/53390633

This was a fun wedding to design!  We had a chance to use tons of Raw Cotton, which is just so fun to work with!  Kristina selected Mustard toned dresses for her bridesmaids to wear, and requested a very colorful assortment of florals.  We used lots of Zinnias, Dahlias, Delphinium, Craspedia, and Succulents.  Then we added lots of local greenery and wildflowers.  I really loved the end result!  Photography by the very talented, Stephanie Haller http://stephaniehaller.com/weddings/

Here are some of the photos we had a chance to snap along the way.  We would have loved to have taken more, but the threat of tornadoes and hail, further down the mountain, meant we really had to hustle if we were going to get home that evening!

We really enjoyed working with Kristina and Dennis, and I know if they put as much effort into their marriage as they did for their wedding day, they will have a lifetime of happiness ahead of them!  Congratulations you two, we wish you all the very best!!!

Nicole and Eric’s Eco-Chic Wedding- Mt. Gulian, Beacon, NY

Every once in a while I come across a thank you note, or a picture, or even an old voice mail from a happy bride; which reminds me of why I love my job so very much.  However when I saw Fred Lee’s video of Nicole and Eric’s wedding, I wanted to jump up and down because it made me so happy.  I don’t know if it was the collection of heart shaped rocks, the adorable flower girl, or one of my favorite songs with the voice over of their vows. This video truly took my breath away.

http://vimeo.com/48344963

Nicole and Eric were great!  They are a super outdoorsey and environmentally conscious couple; and it was very important to them that we only used local flowers and greenery at their wedding.  Sunflowers were the main flower of the day, but we also added a few pops of reds and blues. They went to so much trouble getting all of the details just perfect, and the end result was just perfect amid the grounds of Mount Guilian.  This was our first time at this venue, but it certainly isn’t going to be our last!  We really enjoyed working with everyone there.  And we were also fortunate enough to work along side our good friend Adam Glinert and rest of the ever talented, Main Course staff.

Nicole is actually Lindsay’s Sister, this wedding was part two of the VanVoorhis Sisters’ Wedding Extravaganza!  Once again, we were so lucky to have their beautiful vintage bottles; which were found in their Grandmother’s basement!  I really loved the arch design at this wedding.  Nicole asked us for a garland originally, and then decided it would look really pretty with hanging bottles.  It was just lovely!  We all feel so lucky to have been a part of this wonderful family’s special events.  They were such a delight to work with every step of the way.

Congratulations Nicole and Eric, we wish you all the best!!!

In addition to Sunflowers we used lots of locally grown Zinnias, Mountain Mint, Salvia, Gomphrena, and Bupleurem.

We all really loved seeing all of the places this adventurous couple had traveled to, displayed as table numbers!

After Mother Nature threw us one too many curve balls with unseasonably hot weather affecting many of the local flowers; at the very last second I decided to sneak a few stems of Delphinium into the arrangements, to fill them out a little more.  Although this bloom wasn’t grown in the Hudson Valley, it was 100% substantially grown.  Everything else you see is 100% local.

Love the cake!!!  So perfect!

Yes, you can use Zinnias for Corsages!

Ali and Bill’s Dreamy Onteora Mountain House Nuptials

Ali and Bill’s family and friends were some of the most welcoming people we had the pleasure of working with this past summer.  What a delightful bunch!  Ali came to us asking for a simple and natural looking wedding.  She chose beautiful JCrew dresses in “Dusty Shale” for her bridesmaids, which (in our opinions) is the loveliest shade for spring and summer weddings!  This seafoamy sage green pairs exceptionally well with vintage toned weddings, and looks lovely with rustic features such as driftwood, birch and other natural elements.  Dusty Miller, peach Dahlias, and Garden Roses all look dreamy when paired with this shade. We were lucky enough to be able to source a lot the flowers and foliage for this wedding locally.  The Roses and Antique Hydrangea were imported, but most of the other florals you see came from local gardens and farms.  The beautiful centerpieces were placed on our tree rings, and Ali created origami hearts made from book pages to accent them.  It was such a pretty effect!

I so enjoyed setting up the escort card table for this sweet couple.  We used a collection of our glass apothocary jars, mosses, flower heads, Succulents, and all kinds of “gardeny” titled books and accessories.  I could just feel the love in the air, as family and friends began gathering and swapping stories as they relaxed in the beautiful main room.  The weather was quite challenging during this event, with reports of tornado warnings on the radio as I drove up the mountain! However as I began setting up way on top of the mountain, the storm seemed to skip right over the Mountain House.  Mother Nature would never mess with such beauty!

Very big thank you to Ciro Photography for the gorgeous photos!

Congratulations Ali and Bill, we wish you all the best!!!

What a good looking bunch!  They all look like models for a wedding ad!
