Lush Berry Toned Wedding at La Chambord- Hopewell Junction, NY

I know Chris and Stacey personally, they are actually my neighbors at the Shirt Factory!  They are probably one of the most laid back couples I have met with.  You may think that is because I have known them for a while, but I get the feeling that they are just that way.

Stacey told me that her bridesmaids dresses were wine colored. The term, “wine” always makes me raise an eyebrow, because “wine” is also described as burgundy, plum, or even a brick tone at times.  You name it, there must be hundreds of variations of the shade of “wine”.  So I opted to play it safe since we didn’t have an exact match to the dress at the time, and suggested we use all tones of burgundy, plums, and even a little mauve.  This was such a beautiful and fresh departure from the traditional fall palette or reds, yellows and oranges.

Stacey’s bouquet consisted of gorgeous “Faith” Roses, blush toned Dendrobium Orchid Florets, velvety Black Bacarra Roses, burgundy toned Smokebush Leaves and Peruvian Lilies, which seemed apropos since Stacey’s maiden name is “Lily”.  Love it!  I feel lucky even having her in the same building as me, since we all know I try my hardest to surround myself with flower named people.

The bridal party carried bouquets consisting of many of the same flowers, and foliage, but also contained a few “Minerva” Carnations, which are the most extraordinary little flowers!  They are literally the same colors as the Black Bacarra Roses and silvery/ mauvy colored Faith Roses (in one bloom!).

All of these photos are courtesy of our good friend (and other Shirt Factory neighbor!), Peter Demuth, from Peter Demuth Photography.  For even more photos of this beautiful event (including the most  AMAZING cake!) please visit Peter’s Blog:

Congratulations Chris and Stacey!!!  We couldn’t be happier for you two, and can’t wait for the next chapter of your lives to unfold!

Our First Floral Design Class of the Season: Autumnal Centerpiece

With our 2011 wedding season coming to a close, we are delighted to finally be able to reach out to those of you who have been asking us for floral design classes and workshops!  We thought with Thanksgiving right around the corner it would be fitting to have our first class devoted to fall centerpiece design.  Create your own one of a kind arrangement, using the season’s best flowers. Reward yourself, and or friends and family, with this fun, stress free, zero calorie activity to kick start your holidays.

We will supply all of the flowers, hydration solutions, forms, and hardware to create these beauties; and you can tap into your creativity (and save a little money) by supplying your own candles for the centers of each wreath.

Some great ideas include:

Filling a glass cylinder vase with water and floating candles.

Taking a glass cylinder vase, filling the bottom with cranberries or walnuts, and placing a pillar candle into the center.

Placing a pumpkin into the center of the wreath.

Or as shown in this picture, any wine connoisseurs can fill the bottom half with corks and a pillar candle placed into the center.

The possibilities are really limitless!  And yes, you can certainly purchase any glassware or candles from us too, (we will have items available for purchase at the studio).

We are offering several different classes, at different price points so that everyone can create their own gorgeous centerpiece and stay within their budget.  Because class space is limited, we ask that you please sign up in advance.

Jamie and Jillian, Just Married at Locust Grove!

I love a good love story.  When I saw the slide show of this event it completely took my breath away.  This wedding was beautiful.  I loved working with Jillian.  She is one of the most hysterically funny, and quick witted people I have known.  Her e-mails always made my day, and made me laugh out loud in the middle of the night as I read them.

All of our couples have a love story to tell and I love hearing each one of them!  However this one seemed so old fashioned, yet modern and sophisticated at the same time.  By the time I was delivering Jillian’s wedding flowers, I felt as though I was partaking in the wedding of an old friend.  I could go on forever about all of the details of this wedding, but sometimes I think it is easiest to let the photos speak for themsleves.  P.S.  You do not want to miss the link to the slide show either!  http://video214.com/play/hxsKRJJr0YyG1l85yUd3Rw/s/dark Unless otherwise noted all of the photos are courtesy of the amazingly talented Andres Valenzuela Photography. http://andresvalenzuela.com/

Here is what Jillian had to say about her and Jamie’s wedding, in her own words:

“The “vibe” I was going for on my wedding day was “macaroni and cheese meets champagne.” We actually ended up forgetting to buy champagne and toasting with some ginger ale and sparkling cider concoction, but that’s neither here nor there. The point is, I wanted my wedding to be both elegant and comfy-cozy. My fiance and I had been living 600 miles apart for 2 years while I was in grad school, and 6000 miles apart for 6 months while he was deployed overseas, so our wedding was all about coming home to each other (hence, the comfy-cozy feel). We chose Locust Grove as our venue because the grounds were beautiful and the reception room was a blank slate.

This was all inspired by a collection of vintage bottles that my sister, my father, and I spent many childhood afternoons digging out of the ground in the Bronx and Westchester. Some were chipped, some were crusty, but they were all awesome and I was determined to use them as my wedding center pieces. Heather made this happen in the classiest of ways by lining the bottles up on rectangular tables and filling them with an explosion of orange flowers, including dahlias and the most tremendous roses I have ever seen! We didn’t have enough bottles for all of the tables, and I wanted to add some drama to the room, so my mother found some amazing manzanita branches on recycled bride and set to work. She created gorgeous centerpieces by placing the branches in rustic tin buckets, covering the base with moss, and dangling mercury glass hanging votives from them. These beauties were placed on round tables with some pumpkins and gourds for some fall pizzazz and color. The whole room popped with satiny green (yes, green!) linens that Heather and I painstakingly picked out!

Other little wedding details included an antique ladder decorated with our initials, engagement photos, flowers, etc., chalkboards, photobooth, mini cupcakes, a surprise reception entry by the groom in his USMC dress blues, a surprise C-130 groomscake, delicious food, oh, and mums. Mums everywhere. Our colors were pewter, orange, and navy, and our bouquets and boutonnieres (which included billy balls, cockscomb, monkey tails, and vanda orchid petals) popped in every photo! It was the prettiest, happiest day” 🙂

For her personal flowers, Jillian really wanted Orange and purple to be the main colors in her bouquet.  I have been wanting to work with Vanda Orchids for sometime now, and I was so excited to be able to use them in this bouquet!  Their color is just amazing!  Jillian’s bouquet consisted of Ranuculas, Spray Roses, Double Stock Flower, Crocosmia, and a few others.  Her bouquet handle was wrapped in the same lace from her dress, and accented with purple and orange ribbon.

This is a photo of Jillian’s Mother’s posey bouquet, which was a nice modern option instead of a traditional corsage.

The bridal party carried bouquets containing Orange Mokura Orchids, giant orange Roses, Pin Cushion Proteas, velvety Coxcomb, Dusty Miller, and Craspedia.  They looked so beautiful against the pewter dresses.  I really wanted them to almost be reminiscent of a fuzzy, textural kind of sweater that you would find at Anthropologie or Urban Outfitters (hopefully you all know what I am talking about).  They were wrapped in pewter double faced satin and edged with very thin orange lace trim.

The Maid of Honor’s bouquet had the same lace trim from Jillian’s dress on it.

Here are the bottles which became the “macaroni and cheese” part of the day. The “champagne” was added into the decor by pumping up the color with the large bloomy, fully blown open roses and Dahlias.  We added even more formality by providing our own custom rental linens to the tables.  Jillian selected the most perfect olive green satin you could imagine, with soft wheat toned napkins.  This looked amazing with the wood toned chairs, and wall colors at Locust Grove. Despite all of these very different elements, I think we did a very good job of making everything look cohesive and put together.

Steve and Ruthie’s Autumn Wedding at Lippincott Manor

This bouquet was the inspiration for Ruthie’s entire wedding.  I was so flattered to know that this bride had planned one of the most important day’s of her life around one of my creations, having never even met me!  Ruthie was one of the most thoughtful brides I have worked with to date.  She put so much thought, effort, and attention into every last detail of her day.  Not only did she want things to be perfect for her and her wonderful fiance, Steve; but she also wanted everything to be perfect for her guests.  She created her own replicas of this bouquet out of silks for her centerpieces, and even went to the trouble of hand making her own bouquet jewelry for the girl’s bouquets and corsages!

I wish I had a chance to take more photos of this event, but like so many of our weddings, I am most concerned with everything looking perfect and running smoothly, than I am about my own pictures.  Luckily Ruthie was kind enough to send me these pics for me to check out!  The weather could not have been more perfect for this sweet couple, and I couldn’t help but think that the curse of rainy wedding weather this season was broken by Ruthie and Steve.

Congratulations you two!!

A Wedding So Pretty, You Could Eat It! Locust Grove, NY

What a fun bunch Tara, Paul, and their families were to work with!  I especially liked that Tara came from a family who had florists in it.  In fact, Tara was able to supply me with beautiful tall vintage vases from the 50’s, to place many of her floral centerpieces on.

There were so many details at this wedding!  Tara really loved peacock feathers and wanted to be sure they were incorporated into her day, but once we began discussing other flowers and options, we all came to the consensus that it would be fun to add a lot of culinary floral elements to this event.  Here is how it all came together….

Tara’s bridal bouquet consisted of white, ivory & champagne toned Garden Roses, and many other varieties of roses.  It was edged with a soft collar of hand wired feathers, and wrapped in double faced satin ribbon, lace applique, and had a very special locket (supplied by Tara), on the handle.

The bridesmaid’s bouquets were so fun and perfect for a fall wedding! They consisted of lavender Roses, Ornamental Kale (perfect for fall and the culinary theme) & peacock feathers.

I couldn’t resist snapping a photo of all of the pashmina wraps Tara and Paul were providing for their guests, they looked so perfect with all of the peacock feathers and jewel tones!

The Groom’s Boutonniere.  And yes, that is a white peacock feather you see!

Corsage

Ceremony Arrangements

One of the many centerpieces, half were tall and the other half were in cedar cubes.  We used Amnesia Roses, Super Green Roses (which look to me a little like Brussels Sprouts), Ornamental Kale, Hybrid Delphinium, Asparagus, Snap Dragons, Fresh Herbs, Lemon Leaves, Asparagus Fern, Peacock Feathers, Artichokes, Dusty Miller, and many, many more!

Congratulations Tara and Paul!!!
