Scott and Dylis’ October Wedding at the West Park Winery

Dylis and Scott were just the sweetest couple to work with! I felt terrible all week when I kept hearing the weather report for their big day-rain, lots of rain. All along Dylis was so looking forward to her outdoor ceremony, high on a hilltop overlooking the Hudson Valley in full fall colors.

My hear sunk as I drove up to the winery when the wind picked up and it began raining. However, as soon as I walked inside I immediately felt better! It was so cozy on such a chilly, rainy day, and it smelled absolutely delicious, with the dinner cooking.

When I walked upstairs to where the ceremony was to take place a very talented guitar player was quietly playing in the corner. It was perfect! Karin, the wedding planner from Cinderella 4 a Day, had supplied luminaries, and I had the task of scattering Mini Sunflowers and preserved fall leaves around them. It made for such an intimate and beautiful setting; especially since the upstairs room at West Park literally makes you feel as though you are wrapped up in the inside of a wine barrel.

As I drove down the hill back to the main road, mist began gathering up around all of the most beautifully colored trees. It was such a beautiful contrast! At that moment I turned on the radio and that Chris Isaak song, “Wicked Game” began playing. It is such a moody song and it fit that setting perfectly! A perfect setting for one of the most perfect couples! I cannot wait to see the pro pics (from Your Day Photo), but here is what I have so far….

September Wedding at Wiltwyck Country Club

The pressure was really on with this one! My neighbor Cheryl’s daughter, Amy was the one getting married this time. She had two requirements, that I use Roses and Ranuculas, in shades of apricot and ivory.

This was a September wedding, which is always poses the age old question for brides…should summer tones or fall tones be used? Since I was given more artistic license with this wedding than with most, I opted for early fall tones and colors. No matter how many fall weddings I do whether it is early or late, I always try to avoid the “been there done that” red, yellow and orange color scheme. There are so many ways around using traditional fall colors, while still reflecting the season.

The main flowers used were of course Roses and Ranuculas, chocolatey Cymbidium Orchids, orange Mokura Orchids, Scabiosa Pods, Liquid Amber, Asclepsia, Lisianthus, Pin Cushion Proteas, Gomphrena, Curly Willow, several types of berries, Leukadendron, and plenty of others. I really wanted each arrangement to be different, but look uniform when all grouped together.

Amy’s bouquet is still one of my all time favorites! And yes, her bouquet is wrapped in vintage ribbon that I grabbed from my antique-aholic Mom’s supply! I’m still waiting on the pro pics from this one…

Bosco Bridal Show

This was my first official bridal show. Despite ordering waaaaaay too many flowers, and being so nervous, it went far better than I could ever have hoped for. I truly look forward to working with many of you this year, and a huge thank you to everyone who attended!

John Hughes

I was so sad to hear of John Hughes’ passing last week. I grew up having sleepovers with my girlfriends and staying up until the wee hours, watching Samantha Baker stalk Jake Ryan. Yes, Sixteen Candles is still one of my all time favorite movies. Even back then I was aware of floral design, and I can still remember how it drove me crazy to see poor Samantha wearing a halo of baby’s breath, carnations and what looked like blue cornflower. Yes it was the 80’s, but still! I can also remember how Molly Ringwald’s nail polish was the most perfect color pink ever in the Breakfast Club, when she placed her diamond earring into Judd Nelson’s leather glove. I still seek out that color to this day.

Mr. Hughes managed to turn everyday life into fairytales, and I think that’s what I love so much about his films. If anyone can relate to this, I’m sure florists and those in the wedding industry can! It is such a shame that John is gone, but during his time here he sure did turn out some classic movies. He will be missed.

Rainbow Roses!

And now for something totally off the wall, but wonderful nonetheless…Rainbow Roses. Yes, they are dyed that way, and no, I am not the one who has this fun task. These were a gift for a friend of mine.

They Stage Homes, Why Not Weddings?

We’ve all seen those shows on HGTV where a crummy, outdated living room becomes staged and voila’! Potential buyers have a bidding war and the house sells instantly. Well that got us to thinking, wouldn’t it be nice to be able to transform an ordinary wedding venue into something truly custom and beautiful, without having to shell out all of that extra money? Not only is this a very affordable option but also a very green one. We like to reuse products whenever possible; and honestly, are you really going to have a use for hundreds of tea light votives after your wedding? Probably not.

Please take a look at the first of what will likely turn into many more rental options on our website. Among those shown are large hurricane candle urns, tea light votives, hanging votives and LED lights, high-end tree branches, large scale custom garden urns, glass apothocary jars, mosses, river rocks, and many, many more items to follow in upcomming months. As always, please stay tuned….
